5 steps you can take to help your designer understand your creative vision.

Effective collaboration with your designer is essential when it comes to bringing your creative vision to life. But let’s face it, sometimes things can get a bit messy, and your designer might not fully understand what you're going for. We get that it's frustrating, but there are things you do to ensure you get the results you want. So, let's dive in!

I’ll outline 5 things you can do when your designer doesn't seem to understand what you want.

1. Clarify Your Vision

When working with a designer, it's crucial to communicate your vision in a way that leaves no room for misunderstanding. Take some time to really think about what you want and make sure you convey it clearly. The more specific you are, the better. You should receive a questionnaire with questions that will help you express yourself.

2. Collaborate in Real-Time

Having a real-time collaboration enhances our understanding of your design visions. If your designer hasn’t already offered a virtual meeting (which they should), request meetings or phone calls to discuss your ideas directly. A direct conversation, allows you to provide immediate feedback, answer questions, and address any concerns or uncertainties.

3. Offer Visual References

Sometimes words just don't cut it when trying to explain your vision. A good designer will ask for examples of what you like and create a mood board to clarify things. Share images, illustrations, or even examples from other projects to give them a better idea of your preferences and expectations.

4. Request Design Revisions

Design is a process and often takes more than one redesign to reach the desired outcome. Discuss the number of included revisions before starting your project. If your designer hasn't captured your vision accurately, give specific feedback on what doesn’t feel right to you along with what is working. Your designer may want to discuss the original direction again to help you both stay on track.

5. Emphasize Constructive Feedback

Feedback plays a vital role in refining the design direction. Review each design with your designer to discuss how things are moving along. Provide thoughtful and specific feedback on what aspects are aligned with your vision and which areas need adjustment. Instead of pointing out what you don't like, explain why certain changes would better align with your objectives. This type of feedback helps us make appropriate modifications and ensures that we are moving in the right direction.

Remember, teamwork makes the dream work! (Yes, I said it 🤪). Building a shared understanding of your design direction is key to achieving a design you will be proud to show off. By expressing your vision clearly, sharing visual references, collaborating in real-time, giving repetitive feedback, and fostering a collaborative environment, you'll actively contribute to helping your designer grasp your design direction more effectively. So keep those lines of communication open, get involved, and work together! We truly want to make sure you get the best and most appropriate design for your venture.
